Process Management

How can NYC Department of Buildings better manage internal processes to expedite permitting processes, building inspections, code reviews, and enforcement initiatives?

Technologies may include but are not limited to solving the following use cases:

  • Internal process tracking tool to provide visibility of Personnel Action Requests (PARs—an internal process for certain personnel actions, such as new hires, promotions, or title changes)

  • Tools to automate the code review process

  • Tools to conduct remote building inspections

  • Tools to help certify and expedite inspections

  • Tools to streamline assignment of permitting applications based upon a reviewer’s relevant expertise

  • Workflow management tool to manage the process of going from violations to penalty calculations, to payments, to corrections, with easy communication access points throughout each step.

  • Practice management system for attorneys to follow cases from the time they are assigned until a summons is produced

  • Dynamic scheduling tool to reshuffle development inspection appointments based on completeness of applications

  • Real time integration of complaints and inspection responses in the field to allow inspectors to review nearby inspection needs to enable more efficient use of time.

  • More efficient routing of inspections to reduce travel distance/time between inspections.

  • Tools to help enforce waterfront permitting

  • Smart ID cards or tools to verify various permitting documents, plans, training credentials, etc. on a job site
